PSD Summer Scholarship 2006 Pict Blog

Over the last few years we (Swinburne, and more specifically the Gang of Geeks) have been working on developing a new software development focused degree, the Bachelor of Science(Professional Software Development) or PSD for short. The first group of PSD students have now completed their first year of the degree. There have been some issues but the course has been moving along well and the students have been great.

To encourage these students to extend themselves we created the first PSD Summer Scholarship. This program has now started and the students are making progress on several game related projects. They will be maintaining a Pict Blog (picture blog) to document their progress. Feel free to check out their work and leave some comments...

Great idea.
I wish my course had that kind of 'love'.
The course I undertook was one of those that was being 'phased out' so unfortunately these types of opportunities were not available :(

Hi Anonymous,
If you would like to get back some love, why not join Byteclub? (If you are not already member that is!). It's an open club supported by Swinburne FICT to encourage the sharing between current and past students (and staff), particularly in ICT areas! Contact me or Andrew for more info.

Well, we're not THAT geeky. Well, we've been living off coffee for the past few days, getting overly excited by the smallest breakthroughs, and almost crying over hellish pieces of code.

Maybe we are a bit geeky, but what on earth could give a more meaningful existence to life than geekiness?
Check out the pictblog, and ignore the evil appearance. >_>

I've been looking at the work going up from the Summer Scholarship and it looks really good. Good work to all involved!

Looking forward to the next update.

Andrew, I noticed you are currently 'consuming' Better, Faster, Lighter Java. I thought it was a good read. I borrowed it from Rajesh when I was doing Enterprise Java. I could relate to the mess that is or was, EJB. I haven't had a chance to look into EJB 3.0 but I suspect a lot of what is covered in that book is not as relevant now.

An interesting read nonetheless.

HI Andrew,

The PSD blog only allows comments from Blogger users, which is a bit restrictive to the Byte Club community.

The scholarship looks like it has been successful and fun.
